Chicago neighborhood news site launches

Posted by Steve Safran on January 19, 2010

The Chicago neighborhoods of Lincoln Square and North Center and Ravenswood Manor now have their own hyperlocal news site. CenterSquareLedger.com launched today, hoping to provide the neighborhoods’ residents with regular local information. Staffers publicized the site’s launch the old-fashioned way – they handed out flyers at their local train stops. The site has flat advertising rates: $200 for a one-month run of a 150 x 125 pixel button, with a 40-character click-thru caption. It’s published by two guys, Editor Patrick Boylan and Business Manager Mike Fourcher. Boylan is a sports blogger and Fourcher is a former writer for Chicagoist, which notes that the publication aims for an audience of about 80,000 and is a part-time effort by both men.

Update: Center Square Ledger Business Manager Mike Fourcher writes in our comments: And here’s the cool part: We were inspired, in part, by (Cory’s) MyBallard.com! Thanks for leading the way!”
