Google debuts click-to-call on mobile ads

Posted by Cory Bergman on January 28, 2010

As promised, Google has rolled out the capability for Adwords advertisers to include clickable phone numbers in their ads on iPhones, Android phones and other mobile devices with full browsers. Click the number, and it initiates a call.

Since the ads are served based on your physical location — assuming you’ve activated it — the phone number reflects the business’ closest store, not the one across town.

Google says their beta advertisers saw “5 to 30 percent increase” in click rates for their ads, and it charges the same click rate for the phone numbers as the website links. Businesses can track how many calls they received from their ads, just like they’re tracking regular clicks. For more, here’s Google’s blog post and a demo video of the new feature.
