The Associated Press and Yahoo have just signed a deal that will mean AP content will remain on Yahoo, as it has since 1998. The details haven’t been disclosed, but the AP report on the deal says the arrangement will give the AP “…a steady stream of revenue at a time less money is flowing in from newspapers and broadcasters.”
This is certainly a shot across Google’s bow. Google News stopped running new AP content in December, and there’s word today that Google will still be allowed to keep its old AP content live while it continues to negotiate a new deal.
The AP still has its challenges. Its revenues are down, as its traditional sources of revenue – newspapers, television, radio – see their ad money drying up.
