AmericanTowns, a hyperlocal aggregator network of 15,000 sites, reports it is seeing traffic double every six months. According to a press release obtained by Screenwerk, the network had three million unique visitors in January and is now profitable. The sites aggregate local news stories, blog entries and even Tweets.
The press release says “revenues again grew even faster than traffic growth in the quarter, dominated by local advertisers seeking local customers, at over 75% of advertising revenues.” Again, more competition in the hyperlocal space. As we continue to see, the local ad revenue pie is increasingly getting cut into smaller and smaller slices.
