Huffington Post introduces college edition

There’s a new edition of Huffington Post out, and it’s aimed at college kids. HuffPost College launches with more than 60 partner school newspapers. Smart. HuffPost College is run by two people – one of whom is already the site’s tech editor. Ariana Huffington writes:

“HuffPost College features voices from colleges and universities all around the country and offers a real-time snapshot of what’s going on in the lives of the nation’s 19 million college students — from coverage of the latest trends and sports happenings to more serious issues such as freedom of expression on campus and the rising cost of tuition.”

HuffPost College is a terrific idea, and one that could be done locally on a micro level. I’ve studied a lot of markets and have yet to see one where a major media player aggregated its local universities. It would make for a terrific one-stop-shop for students – and the advertisers looking to target them. Take a lesson from HuffPost College: the students are watching.
