Call for entries in Knight Community Information Challenge

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is issuing its latest call for entries. This time, it’s for the Knight Community Information Challenge, a contest “…to help local foundations find creative ways to fund media projects that inform and engage residents about pressing issues.” So far, the program has given more than $7 million to 45 community projects. There will be two live chats to learn more, on Feb. 16 and 22 at noon ET. Submissions are being accepted now through March 8. Knight has been leading the way in giving money to community-based news and information projects, and we strongly recommend looking into it if this is your field. The full release, after the jump.

Local ad platform Yodle raises another $10 million

Local advertising play Yodle announced today it has secured a $10 million Series D round of funding from existing investors. The round was led by JAFCO Ventures and joined by Bessemer Venture Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth. Patch.com hyperlocal network expands into Massachusetts

AOL’s Patch.com, a chain of local and hyperlocal sites, is expanding its efforts into Massachusetts. Patch.com has 32 local sites so far and, according to the Worcester Business Journal, it is seeking editors for 10 community sites.
