MTV, VH1 team up with Foursquare

Foursquare is inking marketing deals left and right with TV brands, and now a MTV and VH1 deal will include a new Foursquare feature that allows users to “follow” people without a reciprocal friendship, much like Twitter. So, if for some reason you want to follow Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D, you can see where he’s checking in — which as Mashable explains, “a celebrity checking in to Starbucks could cause a mob scene, but checkins at a more controlled environment like an official appearance could help ensure a packed house.”

Similar to the earlier Bravo TV deal, MTV and VH1 fans can earn special badges on Foursquare. And celebrities can also leave tips about their favorite venues. You can imagine how this could grow into a new revenue stream for celebs: attending events and leaving tips at venues, all for a fee.

  1. To what end? This sounds like an automated bulletin board. Is the knowledge meant to benefit the places they visit or will they set up security headaches to a degree not planned for?

I don't see this as well thought through.

  3. It looks like kid stuff if you take the logo seriously, then you earn 'badges'. Boxtops. This all sounds hopelessly like some game women and kids are supposely to dig.

Is this like some bonus game or collect the stamps to buy overpriced dishes at the grocery store? Something from the 1980s Happy Computer Land Anime World without the enjoyment?

Aren't we all over 30? Aren't the combination of pink and black best left to GOOD AND PLENTY?

I don't want to be fifteen again but I'm also tired of the thoroughly uninspired and listless, spinning garbage we call technology and if I really want fun I own a SCHWINN and I have a MIND.

I'm not that lazy and sitting here gives me a backache.

    Whose neighborhood is gone?
