Many iPad users are threatening to return their devices because their iPads are having issues receiving WiFi. An Apple discussion forum is loaded with complaints. A tasting:
“…very weak wifi signal in my 16GB iPad. Even when standing in front of the wlan router the signal fluctuates from strong to very weak.”
“Signal is weak, downloading anything is painfully slow and it will drop the signal and go offline every 5-10 minutes.”
“I used speedtest.net app both on iPhone 3GS and the new iPad. I clearly see the difference. iPad download speed is 1.83 megabits/sec whereas iPhone 3GS download speed is 14.77 megabits/sec.”
Apple isn’t saying much. At the moment, Apple’s resolution suggestions aren’t very helpful:
“Move closer to the Wi-Fi router or hotspot.”
“[V]erify the Wi-Fi router is connected to power and turned on.”
This is pretty standard for a new Apple product release. Users find initial bugs, and usually Apple comes out with a software or firmware fix. However, if this is indeed a hardware problem, Apple could be looking at a whole bunch of returns and bad press. (via CNN)
UPDATE: Apple offers a possible fix.
