Following my post that was critical of WIRED magazine’s entry into the iPad market, there were a number of people asking me what I’d like to see in a digital magazine. Among my suggestions – constantly updated information and better integration of video. Things are looking up with the Popular Mechanics entry into the market. Writes Gizmodo:
“Pop Mech does do a few things better than anybody else… For one, fully embedded, seamless video—videos play on the page, so they feel like they’re part of the magazine, and you’re not interrupted by the iPad’s movie player springing to life on top of the app. Second, and key to keeping the app feeling alive and relevant, it pulls in new info, so the app doesn’t become a fossil once you’re done with the issue.”
I haven’t played with the app yet, but I look forward to giving it a test spin. Meantime, check out the (non-embeddable) video of the demo.
