Gannett to roll out hyperlocal sports pages

Posted by Cory Bergman on August 19, 2010

Earlier this year, Gannett announced a deal with Datasphere to launch neighborhood blog networks in ten of its local markets. Now the media company says it’s expanding its hyperlocal push with plans to roll out “co-branded high school sports microsites across its network of more than 100 local media web sites.”

“We are combining the news gathering assets of our newspapers and television stations with the technology and school relationships of HighSchoolSports.net to create the best possible experience for users and advertisers,” said Peter Lundquist, VP and GM, Gannett High School Sports. “This unlocks the full value of our prep sports content for our readers and for sports marketers, including national marketers, who are increasingly looking to reach 12- to 17-year-old athletes and their families at the local and regional level.”

Gannett plans to launch in 38 markets later this month, with the rest coming later this year.
