A brand new TribLocal.com launched overnight, the Chicago Tribune’s hyperlocal site. “So what’s different? First of all, more news about your town from our growing staff of journalists, and all the news we collect from other local sources,” explains Nancy Munson, digital managing editor, in an online tour of the site.
The new TribLocal has expanded user profiles, a redesigned photo section, more calendar features and free classified ads from ZooZag. “The new site also includes the aggregation of all local news, making TribLocal the one-stop news source of which readers can visit to find out about all news in the area,” said Mary Rakoczy, TribLocal community producer.
One of the hallmarks of TribLocal is blending coverage from the Chicago Tribune, TribLocal staff and members of the community who submit stories in their neighborhood.
AOL’s Patch, which seems to be doing a terrific job motivating papers to expand hyperlocal coverage, has launched 28 sites in the larger Chicago area, with 8 more on the way.
