ABC News and Facebook team up for election coverage

Facebook appears serious about getting into the livestream business, and the latest sign comes from a deal it’s doing with ABC News for election night coverage. ABC News will stream its election night (November 2) coverage in the usual places you’d expect – ABCNews.com and the ABC iPad app – and will also livestream on Facebook. There will be online-only coverage from 8 pm – 9:30 pm, at which time the network will jump in as well. There is more to the initiative, according to the ABC News press release:

“Facebook will reach out to people on Facebook in key congressional districts to explore the issues that are driving campaigns, giving ABC News a unique perspective into these races. People on Facebook will have an opportunity to interact with ABC News broadcasts, offering questions, comments, and opinions. In addition, they will be able to contribute questions to a series of local debates.”

ABC News is also partnering with Yahoo! News to do election polling, with results posted on both sites. In addition, the network will be doing daily 15-minute webcasts beginning October 25th at 6:45 am, the idea being that the webcast will be a lead-in to “Good Morning America,” and will focus on the election.
