Last March, Samsung debuted downloadable apps on its larger Smart TV sets and Blu-ray players. Over 200 apps strong, viewers buy and download apps straight from the TV.
Now less than a year later, Samsung says viewers have downloaded over 1 million of them. Among the most popular: Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, CinemaNow and Texas Holdem. Other popular apps include Netflix, Pandora and Skype. And Samsung features the social staples, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well.
Samsung expects the market for its Smart TVs to reach 6.5 million units by the end of this year, growing to 20 million units by 2012 — a significant audience for app developers.
