Back in 1966, WPIX-TV in New York began the tradition of airing a loop of a yule log burning in a fireplace on Christmas Eve, accompanied by Christmas music. Years later, other Tribune TV stations picked up the popular tradition, as well. It even has it’s own fan site.

Fast-forward to 2010, and the yule log is getting a makeover. Sure, you can watch the log on WPIX now in high-definition, but In-Demand has taken it a step further — in 3D. You can watch the 3D yule log (with appropriate festive eyewear) on demand on most the major cable systems, Comcast, Cox Communications, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks through January 3rd.
Over on iTunes, you can download an assortment of iPhone and iPad apps for .99 cents a pop. Over on U-Stream, CBS News will be streaming the yule log on Christmas Eve and morning. Or just watch full-screen on YouTube — this one is available in 720p HD. Nothing beats a fireplace, of course, but now you can take one wherever you are.
