Samsung hits 2 million TV app downloads

Just last month, we reported that Samsung’s TV app store hit a milestone of 1 million app downloads. Today, Samsung announced it just hit 2 million. Among the most popular apps: YouTube, Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, AccuWeather, Google Maps and Texas Holdem.

Now, before we get too excited, Engadget offers a little perspective: Apple’s app store delivered 1.5 billion downloads in its first year, and the Mac app store passed one million downloads on opening day. But growth is accelerating, and as TV manufacturers improve the user experience — and standardize platforms — TV app consumption will become mainstream in the years to come.

update on the update- i shouldn’t come down so hard on the good folks at cbslocal, they are trying. looks like they finally settled it, cbsatlanta.NET it is!

i do think i lit a fire under their collective keesters, though- cbsjacksonville.com and cbssanantonio.com were just registered YESTERDAY per whois.

how did i forget to mention cbsphoenix.com as just being registered?

i point out cbssanantonio and phoenix but leave the matter of connecting the dots to the reader.

could it have something to do with the apparent “problems” cbslocal had in dealing with the cbs tv affiliate in atlanta that drove them to register cbsphoenix?

the probable pushback from the cbs tv affil in st. louis that caused them to register cbssanantonio?

if so, man, do i like their sense of humor.

with some “other” higher-ranking dma cbsradio cities still hanging out there (cbs”armpitofthemidwest”dotcom for example) left unregistered, i fail to see the motivation otherwise.

So what IS wrong with KMOX.com, other than the TV 4 site is KMOV.com and is a CBS station?

WHY is the KMOX logo so stinkin’ SMALL??
