“You’ve Never Seen a State of the Union Address Like This Before” is the title of an entry at the White House blog. The Obama administration is looking to take advantage of the social media tools to coincide with the speech — and beyond. They are calling the speech the “Enhanced State of the Union.” The activities go well into the week:
- Immediately following tonight’s speech, four members of the Obama administration will take questions via Twitter (@WhiteHouse) and on its Facebook page.
- On Wednesday, a “special guest” will field questions on Twitter @PressSec. (Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was supposed to do this, but had a “scheduling conflict.”)
- President Obama will field questions via YouTube on Thursday at 2:30 pm ET. The page for the event is live now. You can submit a question and other users vote “up” or “down” on the question, giving a good indicator of which general topics are on people’s minds. Great use of social voting.
- On Thursday, starting at 11:30 am, four policy experts will be on the White House Facebook page, each taking time to field questions and interact.
- The busy web week ends on Friday when the folks at Yahoo! have a Q&A with VP Joe Biden. Yahoo! Answers is taking your questions right now.
