‘Death Cab’ debuts music video live on Facebook

Back in the old days, you’d gather around the TV to see a “world premiere” music video on MTV. These days, bands are trying all sorts of things to drive new attention. For example, the Seattle band “Death Cab for Cutie” premiered a music video today, performing it live on Facebook and Ustream.

It was billed “the first live, scripted, one-take music video shoot ever.” And besides a quick little glitch of the top, the music video went off without a hitch. I was surprised, however, that with 1.3 million Facebook fans, only 3,800 or so people watched the live event (according to Ustream counter.) Here’s the archive:

“We have always been inspired by the intersections between creative fields, where music meets film, where film meets Internet, where Internet meets music, etc.,” says Death Cab’s Nick Harmer. “There are so many ways to enjoy the things you love these days that the sky is pretty much the limit with putting things out there.”
