Updated: Yep, they got it right yet again. Haley was eliminated.
Earlier: Both Likester and Yap.tv have called it correctly several times before, accurately predicting who’s getting the boot off American Idol. Likester analyzes Facebook “like” data, which for the first time is a component in American Idol voting. Yap.tv measures mentions and sentiment on Twitter, and the most talked-about contestant nearly always gets the boot.
Spoiler alert! This week, both Yap.tv and Likester agree again on the contestant who will face elimination If they get this one right, it should start worrying American Idol producers about the predictive qualities of social media, which has seemed to hit a statistical critical mass, at least among younger viewers.
Their prediction is Haley Reinhart will be eliminated — she came away with the most likes and the most Twitter chatter, which has shown to spell near-certain doom. That leaves Scott and Lauren to advance to the final two. We’ll see if they nail it again…
