Discovery has launched its first “second screen” experience, and what better time than Shark Week? The cable network has updated its iPad and iPhone apps with content and conversation synched in real-time to the broadcasts, airing all this week. It’s also launched a Shark Week Live section with the same co-viewing experience online.
Users can discuss the on-screen action on the app (iPad pictured above) via Facebook and Twitter, as well as play against other viewers in real-time quizzes and “prediction events.” There’s also behind-the-scenes content, production photos, maps, graphs, shark facts and photos. Audio alerts on the iPad signal when there’s new content loaded along with the show. The apps are prominently sponsored by Toyota Venza.
And for the super shark fans out there, Discovery has rolled out a $4.99 Ultimate Sharks iPad app with tons of video and photos — which you can sync to “AirPlay” (if you have one) to play on your TV set, too.
