The second season of USA Networks’ show “Covert Affairs” will feature call-outs on air for viewers using the Shazam app to “tag” music in the show to unlock exclusive video and photos. The drama joins a growing list of “Shazamable” shows (their word, not mine) that tap Shazam’s massive user base. And for the first time, viewers will also be able to buy merchandise from the show.
When you tag the show, you can select “Shop Covert Affairs” to be taken to a mobile store powered by Delivery Agent. There, viewers can buy fashion brands seen in the show or fan merchandise. Delivery Agent manages commerce for NBC Universal and 40 other entertainment properties.
NBC Universal properties have been among the first working with Shazam, including Bravo TV, Oxygen, SyFy along with USA. For Covert Affairs, fans who “tag” the show will unlock exclusive video and photos from Globe Tracker, a multimedia gallery of on-location content shot by Covert Affairs star Christopher Gorham. Viewers can also download wallpaper for their phone, share their discovery on Facebook and Twitter and “like” the Covert Affairs Facebook page.
A little over a month ago, Shazam opened up its apps to unlimited tagging (before, it pushed users to a paid version). “Now that we offer unlimited tagging for everyone on Android and iOS devices, people can tag all the television they want and interact with the shows they enjoy on the ‘second screen’ – their mobile device – in a way that doesn’t interfere with others who may be watching the television with them,” explains Shazam’s EVP Marketing, David Jones.
With more than 150 million people using the service, Shazam has more reach than any TV check-in or tagging app on the market. It’s making an aggressive push into TV with a new $32 million investment.
